Bob Drost in the beginning history

Bob Drost’s passion for landscaping began early. At the age of 14, he started as a caddy at Belvedere Golf Club in Charlevoix, Michigan, and worked his way up until he was given a chance to work on the course’s maintenance. He loved caring for the course, and when he watched a company come in with a tree spade to plant some new trees, he was smitten. He knew that this–landscaping–was what he wanted to do for the rest of his life.

By 1991, Bob Drost had solidified his path, having worked with a landscape contractor and studying at Michigan State University. He knew it was time to make his mark on the landscapes of northern Michigan. Drost Landscape had humble beginnings, taking shape in a pole barn off Howard Road with a dirt floor and a team of five.

In a couple years, Drost Landscape moved to its current location on Cedar Valley Road, but it’s seen many changes over the years as the team continues to grow and its services evolve. Drost’s reputation for superior craftsmanship and unique designs grew quickly through partnerships with contractors such as Town and Country Cedar Homes, Poineau Woodworking, and Glennwood Builders, and while many things have changed over the years, our passion for excellence remains the same.

Garnering accolades from the local community and awards from organizations like MNLA, Drost Landscape has proven itself as an industry and community leader. Our team has grown over the years to include services from design, construction, and garden care to tree services, snow removal, lighting, fertilization, and irrigation. We offer a wide range of unique plants through our own nursery and greenhouse, providing our clients and community with interesting specimens you can’t find anywhere else. And we’re proud to serve our community through outreach programs and by supporting local organizations, including our public and private schools, Challenge Mountain, Charlevoix County Community Foundation, Harbor House, and the Women’s Resource Center.

From the very beginning, we’ve prided ourselves on offering each client professional, passionate, and personalized services to help them achieve their unique landscape dreams. Today, we’re proud to do more–for our team, our clients, and our community. The last 30 years have been full of challenges that have pushed us to further success, and we’re excited for what the future holds as we continue to grow.
